High density spray foam is used on backside of the stairs. Note how it is coming through… this is where air would leak from in many older homes! Not any more. It will also help deaden some of the stairwell noise too.

Here you can see the duct work going through the open web joists. Also note all the gray mastic on the connections… eliminating air leaks.

More spray foam & more blown in fiberglass insulation. Again, this foam will block the flow of unwanted air leaks, water, insects, etc. That big, square piece of steel on diagonal, protects you from accidentally nailing through the main electrical line!
